Deschooling

Our last day of public school was June 2010. A week later we "started homeschooling". June, July, August, September, October, November, December and now January 2011. With each passing month, we've done less and less academics. I think I'm finally realizing we DO NEED a period of official deschooling. I'll document what I do on this page.

Here's a few links I like:

01/20/2011: Since we started the Lifestyle of Learning Seven Seasons Program, we are re-evaluating what we do for school. February 1st is coming and I'll need to make my calendar. Before the 1st of the month I'll take a blank monthly calendar and mark the school days. That way the kids know on what days they are required to do math, writing and reading. I will also mark our "days off" which are the holidays and our PROJECT DAYS (using the History of the Holidays Pak). So I like taking one month at a time. For January: math sheet, writing page, 20 minute reading
For Dessert & Devotions: Wisdom & The Millers (they always beg for two chapters!)
For Project Day: MLK Monday the 17th History of the Holiday reading page and activity, day off
For Lunch: practice Awana verses, mom reads

01/1/2011: We've officially been homeschooling since June 2010. In April 2010, we attended a homeschool conference. I was warned NOT to buy stuff. I thought I did really well by only purchasing Math-U-See and the Picture Smart Bible and the Calendar Book. The kids didn't connect with the Picture Smart Bible so I'm saving that for a few years down the road, it is excellent and I can't wait to use it at a future time. I purchased A TON of other stuff online over a few months of beginning to bring school home (which I thought I wasn't doing!)...every few days I'd feel like "if I could just find something else"...the typical response to "forced-learning refusal" (FLR). I purchased some great things from Simply Charlotte Mason. So what are we doing this month? Math U See, a handwriting page from CLP workbook and 20-minute reading which is a program through our local library that goes through May 2011. Read 20 minutes per day for 20 days per month and receive a FREE BOOK.
